After a busy first year, complete with avocado shortages, a cookbook deal, and a $400k investment from Shark Tank’s Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran, Brooklyn’s all-avocado restaurant Avocaderia has expanded into a second location. Open today at 271 11th Ave. inside the Terminal Stores Building between 27th and 29th streets, Avocaderia serves breakfast and lunch bowls, toasts, salads, smoothies, and guacamole, all made with the popular green fruit. It’s open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., starting at 11 a.m. today. Cup Instant Noodles
Hunan Slurp Shop has opened in the East Village at 112 First Ave. near East Seventh Street, with rice noodle dishes inspired by chef-owner Chao Wang’s hometown of Hengyang in the Hunan province of China. Dishes include a noodle bowl with bone marrow and a Tonkotsu-style broth and another stew with pig’s feet. The 48-seat space is covered in wood stripes, circular mirrors, marble tabletops, and exposed lightbulbs. Hunan Slurp is open by reservation only through May 22 and then open to walk-ins starting on May 23.

The number of NYC restaurants getting rid of plastic straws is growing, and a huge new influencer just jumped on board: Danny Meyer. The hospitality industry leader has nixed plastic straws at his restaurants, starting with Union Square Cafe. They’ll be replaced by “a biodegradable alternative,” suggesting metal will not be employed.
